Story
The Bride and Groom’s friends from church, a large congregation of young adults, teenagers and families, travelled across Canberra to attend their friend’s wedding.
To see their friends married, share in their celebration and bless them in person, each friend put thought, time, effort and cost into:
- selecting a gift that would help their friends set up their house and life together as man and wife;
- selecting wrapping paper, ribbons and a card;
- writing a personal message and blessing in the card;
- the cross town trip, or interstate drive from Sydney to Canberra;
- attending the wedding service and reception.
At the reception, they each handed their carded, wrapped and packaged gift for their friends, to you, the bride’s parents, for safekeeping; fully expecting you to hand each gift to their friends, as presented, for their friends to open and read the card, and unwrap, open and enjoy the gift.
You did not transfer title over to the Bride and Groom, that is their friends’ cards. You did not hand over to the Bride and Groom their friends’ gifts. You did not return each card, and wrapped and packaged gift to each friend. Therefore, you stole the property of each friend.
That theft denied each friend the Bride and Groom’s:
- acknowledgement of their gifts;
- blessings and thankfulness;
- ongoing relationships with them.
The passage of time does not erase or diminish the theft, rather it compounds each friend’s loss.
You are accountable for your trespass and the Bride and Groom seek restoration to close each trust on behalf of each friend.
To remedy the trespass and close each trust:
- transfer title, that is the cards, to the Bride and Groom, and
- hand over each friend’s packed and wrapped gift to the Bride and Groom; or
- restore each friend’s property to them.
When this is not possible restore to the Bride and Groom sevenfold of the value of each friend’s gift, adjusted for inflation.
